At times, traumatic events and a realization of the frailty of life can motivate us to strive for a put-off
dream or reassess our priorities. That was the catalyst, mixed with some strong encouragement and
amazing neighbors and friends, that made the Fruita living nativity come to life on our little farm in 2019.
A one-night “trial run” was unexpectedly flooded with around 400 enthusiastic visitors, who at times had
to get out and help push the overloaded hay wagon! This inspired us to keep on.
Road to Bethlehem has grown to an annual three night event that is organized and run by around 60
volunteers and visited by about 1000 guests each Christmas season.
We are volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, professions, and representing many different
Christian churches. The link that ties each of us together is the strong conviction that the nativity story is
no fairy tale, but a real historical event that has dramatically impacted the course of human history and
also touched each of our lives in a very personal way. We are not here to promote any doctrinal or
denominational agenda. We are here to celebrate how the lowly birth of a tiny Baby in Bethlehem over
2000 years ago can transform our lives today. From Mighty Creator, to helpless Baby, to dying Savior, to
risen Lord – and one day returning King – Jesus is the reason we have hope in a tumultuous world today.
